Lasers can safely and effectively enhance your appearance and self-confidence. At Palm Beach Dermatology Group, we are passionate about the use and effects of lasers in the treatment of skin problems and in our ability to deliver the best possible medical care to you. Only board-certified physicians perform our laser procedures. These treatments range from the non-invasive VariLite® laser, used for removing blemishes such as brown spots, to full-face rejuvenation with the fractional CO2 laser.
Palm Beach Dermatology Group is proud to introduce the fractional CO2 laser for facial rejuvenation. Over the years there have been a number of techniques used to improve the appearance of facial skin, including chemical peels, microdermabrasion, and full CO2 laser resurfacing.
All of these treatments can improve the quality of your skin; however, these methods have had limited results. In addition, there can be extended downtime and unwanted color changes.
The fractional CO2 laser has been developed since 2009. This technology produces safer, more consistent results, without the problems of the procedures mentioned above. The fractional CO2 laser is a computer device that heats microscopic dots in the skin, while leaving normal skin bridges between the dots. This use of the laser gives the desired results with much more rapid healing.
Which conditions will benefit from this laser treatment?
Irregular skin coloring can be made more uniform, large pore size and acne scarring can be improved, the skin can be tightened by producing new collagen, and facial wrinkles can be dramatically improved.
How is the treatment given?
The patient arrives one hour prior to the procedures to receive a topical anesthetic to the area to be treated. This application minimizes any discomfort from the laser treatment. The actual procedure takes 20-30 minutes.
What can I expect after the procedure?
The treated area feels like a sunburn for 1-2 hours, sometimes followed by a mild itching. A moisturizer such as Aquaphor is applied to the face for a week. On the first and second day after the procedure, dilute vinegar soaks are applied. On the third and fourth days, lactic acid soaks are applied. The face will develop a light bronzing or crusting, which begins to flake off over days 4-6. There may be some facial swelling over the first few days. The face has some redness following the flaking off of the skin and a cover-up cosmetic may be used at this time.
How many treatments are needed?
The initial treatment produces a permanent result. However, the deeper lines around the mouth and crow’s feet often benefit from an additional 1-2 touch up procedures in 3-4 months.
Laser skin treatments address many age-related concerns, including:
- Liver Spots, Age Spots
- Spider Veins
- Facial Wrinkles
- Laxity of Facial Skin
- Acne Scars
- Uneven Skin PigmentationUnsightly Scars
